The Tiktaalik was a transitional form between fish and early tetrapods. It had fins and gills, but could also breathe air and drag itself on land.
I like that there are also Tiktaalik-like transitional forms in other domains. Take the teleprinter. The teleprinter is a transitional form between paper and modern computers. You type in your computer commands, which show up on the paper like a typewriter, and then the computer types back, also on the paper. On the teleprinter, paper was your computer monitor.
